The Palace Theater announces auditions for the Spring Musical Disney’s “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST”
The Hilo Palace proudly announces auditions for their first Spring Musical, the Disney family classic “Beauty and the Beast”. Singers, dancers and circus skilled performers of all ages are encouraged to audition during any of the following dates/times:
Wednesday, January 8th – 6-9pm,
Friday, January 10th – 4-6pm,
Saturday, January 11th – 11am-2:pm.
Callbacks will be on Sunday, January 12th – 10am-1pm.
All auditions will take place at the Palace Theater.
“Please wear comfortable clothes for a short choreography session and prepare 16 bars of an audition piece with accompaniment tracks,” said Larry Reitzer, Director. “If you to prefer to sing with an accompanist, please bring sheet music, a pianist will be available. If using tracks, it is strongly recommended to have your accompaniment predownloaded onto your portable device,” said Reitzer.
This fun and family-friendly musical, adapted from the original Oscar-winning Disney film, brings to life the timeless story of a selfish and hot tempered prince who is turned into a hideous beast and must win the affection of a beautiful, young girl in order to regain his humanity. This musical includes the classic songs: “Be Our Guest”, “If I Can’t Love Her”, “Belle”, the title song “Beauty and the Beast” and many more.
This Production of DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will be the Hilo Palace’s first production of their newly formed Youth Theatre Company which will offer young singers, dancers and actors an opportunity to star alongside more experienced, older performers in a family-friendly production aimed for audiences of all ages. The show will be directed by Larry Reitzer who recently directed ALADDIN, JR at the University as well as GYPSY at the Palace and have choreography by Nadia Schlosser and Musical Direction by Lisa Katherine Taylor. The BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Children’s Chorus will feature Taylor’s Anuenue Chorus and Glee Club.
All roles are open and include the following:
BELLE – Female. She is optimistic, fun-loving, caring, and eager to experience life. Contemporary soprano
BEAST – Male. A prince transformed into a terrifying beast but has a warm, loving heart buried beneath his
gruff exterior.
GASTON – Male. The egotistical, ultra-masculine, physically imposing villain determined to marry Belle.
LEFOU – Male or Female – Gaston’s bumbling sidekick. He is loyal, energetic and optimistic but not quite the
brightest guy/girl.
MAURICE – Male, about 50-60, Belle’s loving, eccentric father. A child at heart and inventor in his own world. Character baritone.
COGSWORTH – Male. A tightly-wound, enchanted mantle clock and the head of Beast’s household. He is
uptight, strict, and punctual.
LUMIERE – Male. A suave, debonair, enchanted candelabra. He is a loyal and steadfast servant. Must be
able to move well.
MRS. POTTS – Female, could be 30-50, a warm-hearted, maternal enchanted teapot. She is loyal, caring
and playful. Sings the title song.
BABETTE – Female. A sexy, saucy, enchanted feather-duster and the object of Lumiere’s affections. Must be
able to move well. Alto.
MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE – Female, could be 35-55, A former opera diva-turned- enchanted
wardrobe. Operatic Soprano.
CHIP : Child, male or female , age 6-12, NO TALLER THAN 3′. Mrs. Potts’ son, an inquisitive little tea cup.
MONSIEUR D’ARQUE: Male, Age: 30 – 50. The scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum. He is a dark, sinister villain.
The Silly Girls: 3 Females: Gaston’s admirers. Must sing and have good comedic timing. Ensemble.
CARPET: Male/Female. Advanced Tumbling Skills, including consecutive back-handsprings, and tumbling
passes. Ensemble.
ENSEMBLE SINGERS/DANCERS: All ages and types. Male and female. Great singers, technical dancers and
character actors. All ethnicities and types for all roles welcome. Ensemble includes various townspeople,
enchanted objects, and wolves.
