Island Dance Academy and the Palace Theater present “The Nutcracker”, with performances on Friday December 13 and Saturday December 14 at 7 p.m., and 2 p.m. on Sunday December 15. Featuring whirling twirling ballerinas, tap dancing soldiers, sword fighting combatants and more, this is a long-time holiday tradition for Hilo, first started by Island Dance Academy’s director, Suen Hughes, in 1989. Center Stage Dance Alliance presents their annual Winter Showcase & Fundraiser. On Saturday, they will showcase their little keiki classes at 3pm, followed by fundraiser festivities in the Palace lobby at 3:30-5pm, including a silent auction, bake sale, live music, and other fun activities for keiki. At 7pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday, there will be dance performances featuring all the other classes, showcasing styles in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and breakdancing.
