The Palace Theater is looking for incredible local talent for the third annual Night of Island Stars variety show competition. This year’s show takes place at the historic Palace Theater on Saturday March 1st and will featuring a line up of 10 unique acts competing for the top prize of $1,000. Do you have what it takes to capture the hearts of Hilo and take home the top prize?

Dates

  • Auditions at the Palace Theater: Sat Jan 11, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
  • Doors will open at 11:30 am, please arrive early to check in.
  • Auditioners must fill out the online registration form in advance (ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. You may register in person if you have not yet done so.)
  • Auditioners will be seen in the order of check in.
  • Aerial Auditions at The Airhouse: Sun Jan 12 (aerialists only), 1:00 – 2:00 pm
  • Please bring your own apparatus, if you need an apparatus provided, please reach out to islandstars@hilopalace.com to arrange.
  • Mandatory Rehearsal & Promo Shoot – Tue Feb 18, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
  • Mandatory Dress Rehearsal – Thu Feb 27, 7:00 pm

Show Date – Sat March 1, 7:00 pm

Guidelines

  • Solo and group performances will be considered, but because of show logistics we cannot accommodate full bands at this time.
  • Auditioners will be allowed 2 min to showcase their material.
  • No acapella singing auditions. If you will be singing without live accompaniment, please email an .mp3 or Youtube link to islandstars@hilopalace.com.
  • Finished acts should be no more than 5 min long on show day.
  • Video submissions will be considered, but preference will go to those who audition in person. Video submissions will be accepted via email to islandstars@hilopalace.com. Auditions submitted after 12:00 pm on Jan 11 will not be reviewed.
  • No R-rated material; all acts are to be family friendly.
  • Absolutely no fire or water will be allowed.
  • Acts will be judged by the following criteria:
  • Entertainment value: is the act captivating, interesting and enjoyable to watch?
  • Originality: does the artist add a personal touch? do they have an original, artistic vision and make purposeful choices?
  • Stage presence: are they confident and comfortable on stage? have they thought about their appearance or put together a costume?
  • Execution: is the artist well-prepared? do they know their material? do they display strong commitment to their performance?
  • 10 – 12 acts will be selected as follows: 3 – 4 singing acts, 3 – 4 dance acts, 3 – 4 wildcards (aerialists, circus acts, comedians, actors), 2-3 keiki acts.

Notification of selection will be made via email by Tue Jan 14.
