Johnny Nicholas, Grammy blues musician and Gary Washburn, big island music educator have once again formed the Dragon Jazz Band from Washburn’s Honoka’a High School music students and professional musicians in Nicholas’ band. The Dragon Jazz Band, an extension of Nicholas’ Big Band Bash project, encourages, supports and gives opportunity to music students through mentoring, the experience of performing with professional musicians, his dedication to nurturing students and appreciation of the true “South Texas/Louisiana Blues” style.
