The Palace Theater is proud to present the 11th Annual Halloween screening event of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW!
The original, the outrageous, “THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW” returns to the Palace Theater Big Screen on Halloween night, Sunday, October 31. A full evening of festivities round out the screening event including pre-show trick or treating, annual costume contest, “The Time Warp” dance-a-long and, of course, audience participation kits.
Stop by the Palace stoop from 6:00-7:00pm for some pre-show trick-or-treating as part of Hawaii Island LGBTQ Pride’s Hilo Town mini-Haunt.
From 7:00-8:00pm, get your photo taken on the Blood-red carpet with Riff Raff.
Sign-ups begin at 7:00pm for the annual costume contest. Participation is limited to the first 25 who sign up and restricted to adults 17+. The contest is hosted by the one, the only, the hostess with the mostess: Lady Lily La Duce. Make an impression for the crowd while strutting your stuff across the stage accompanied by the rocking tunes of a live 3-piece band. Winners will be decided by a panel of esteemed judges specializing in the ghoulish, bizarre, and downright otherworldly. Costumes are not limited to just Rocky Horror characters, so push your imagination to the limits! Prize packages include a fantastic selection of items including gift certificates, apparel from Big Island Grown, classes from Aerial Arts Hawaii, soaps from Filthy Farmgirl, Oribe Tea, and more. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place as decided by our judges, along with Audience Favorite and Riff Raff’s Choice Award.
For any “Rocky Virgins” (those who have never seen the movie in person), be prepared for an audience of loud and zany people who shout out and continue the tradition of participation cues formed over the 46 year history of midnight screenings of the cult classic. Participation Kits complete with many items you’ll need to throw at the screen are available for purchase at the event. Warm up your participation muscles with a good old fashioned Time Warp dance-along, with the movie hitting the big screen at 9:00pm.
